Because I have two of the most amazing men on this planet as a part of my life, I am now in possession of a fantastic juice extractor—something that I have wanted to be mine for over a decade.
I don’t know how they knew how much I wanted one really. Maybe it had something to do with the fact that they found me enthusiastically pretending to make juice with a juicer that was on display—complete with sounds effects—in the kitchen isle of an electronics store (much to what I am sure was my younger sister’s dismay and embarrassment).
What can I say? I just love freshly extracted juice. Memories of having mum’s fresh carrot juice delivering a beta-carotene-filled punch to my groggy mornings give me feelings of joy and health. So it is with every “nyeeeeerwheeeeeburrrrrrrrrpppzzzzz” of the juicer I feel a deep gratitude for the generosity of my men and the nurturing care of my mother.
Freshly squeezed happiness in a glass.
Since I got my juicer I have been feeling like something of a juicing queen; whizzing and zipping up zesty, vitamin-filled blends of goodness daily. Okay, so I did only come into possession of my juicer 2 weeks ago—but please indulge me. Though it is likely a highly-inflated sense of my ability telling me that I have got this juice thing covered, I really do believe that the blends I have concocted are the things tasty and nutritious are made of—guaranteed to deliver a delicious package of “zing” into your day.
Are you looking for an easy way to make your day more zesty? These fruit and vegetable juice blends are delicious, light and packed full of health!
Give them a go and tell me what you think!
Method (for all juices)
- Wash the fruit and vegetables, or for oranges and dragon fruit, cut or peel the skin off.
- Cut the fruit and vegetables to a size that will fit in your juicer.
- Mix in the frothy stuff before pouring.
- Pour over ice if so desired (I usually don’t).
Sunzest on the Rocks
With the striking sunset orange pleasing your eyes and zesty lemon tingling on your tastebuds, this blend is as gorgeous as it is uplifting. Served on the rocks, this alkalising and healthful drink feels like a kind of jazzy lemonade.
1 lemon (put aside one slice/wedge to serve)
½ cup of ice (to serve)
Give Me Sum!
This blend is surprisingly sweet and refreshing. Though these three may not seem like they would deliver a mouthful of delicious when placed together under enormous pressure, they perform unexpectedly well—the carrots and green apple perfectly balancing out the earthiness of the choy sum.
150g choy sum
1 green apple
Asian Fuschia Fusion
A gorgeous shade of fuschia (or “pink,” for all you men and colour-challenged people out there) sweet to the taste, packed full of vitamins and ending in the subtle bite of ginger—this blend is beautiful and beneficial from the moment it touches your lips, to the glow and radiance you will feel long after it is gone. A wonderfully light and refreshing drink—Great for warding off colds!
1 white-fleshed dragon fruit
1 Japanese cucumber
¼ large beetroot
1 piece of ginger (½ size of your thumb)
I’ll Be Pak
Ever-so-light and zesty, this blend will have you feeling lighter as soon as you drink it. I personally love the slight twang of the pak choy and wheatgrass in this—but if your tastebuds are not accustomed to so much “green,” then add the whole apple and orange to balance the flavour.
Two handfuls pak choy
2 large carrots
2 stalks of celery
½ green apple
1 pinch of fresh wheatgrass
I’d love to hear from you:
